Ines Dahne


What do you do every day?

Ines Dahne: I work for one of the world's largest diagnostic laboratories. I lead an organization of 1,200 smart individuals who bring new diagnostic tests and IT solutions to the US and international healthcare marketplace.

Why do you love your job?

Ines Dahne: I love it because I contribute to creating a healthier world every day and because I can get others excited about the difference that we can make.

What were your biggest moments of fear or challenge in your career?

Ines Dahne: I don't find fear productive. Most challenges have occurred for me when I had a manager who had a personal agenda. I have learned and become a better leader through all my challenges.

What are the latest innovations in science that you are the most excited about?

Ines Dahne: There are some proven ways to help patients adhere to treatment plans by playing online games. What's not exciting about computer games keeping us healthier?

Where did you grow up?

Ines Dahne: In East Germany in a former socialist country.

Who was your favorite teacher and why?

Ines Dahne: My first grade teacher. She named me class speaker. Without her, I would never have had the courage to speak up.

Describe an experience in which you adapted your approach to resolve a difficult situation.

Ines Dahne: Sticky situations usually have to do with people spending more time talking and less time listening. An example of this is when developing a new product. I try to keep personal feelings out of the equation and find common ground.

Do you have a unique or quirky talent?

Ines Dahne: I smile all the time.

Ines Dahne: Check out http://www.bridgetteraes.com/. She has a great fashion blog that can help with any challenge. She insists one should spend 25% of your budget on accessories because fashion is like chicken - you need to spice it up! My purse holds enough to get me through an overnight camping trip. :)

What are you reading currently and what are some of your favorite books or authors?

Ines Dahne: I love Cutting for Stone and Life of Pi. I currently read Brain on Fire.

Do you have a guilty pleasure or a website that you visit everyday?

Ines Dahne: I travel to remote areas of the world and take photos. Expensive hobbies for sure.

What 's your inspiration?

Ines Dahne: I am inspired by anyone who finds and spreads joy, dignity and grace in all aspects of life and work.

What 's next? What is something you hope to accomplish in the future?

Ines Dahne: I volunteer in Haiti and support sustainable business development. I try very hard to maintain my commitment to Haiti and not get too wrapped up in my career to help.
